Sara was born in Union, SC on February 23, 1923 to Ben Tillman Going and Etta Gallman Going. Sara retired from Quality Vending Services in Albany, GA and then relocated to Columbia in 1985. Prior to getting ill, she volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Arden Elementary School for several years. Read More	Sara Going Lemaster Payne Tanner, age 87 passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home, Newberry, SC from end stage Alzheimers Disease. Sara was born in Union, SC on February 23, 1923 to Ben Tillman Going and Etta Gallman Going. Sara retired from Quality Vending Services in Albany, GA and then relocated to Columbia in 1985. Prior to getting ill, she volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Arden Elementary School for several years. She also volunteered through the Council on Aging for the Respite House providing assistance to infirmed adults and at the Childrens Garden where she enjoyed reading and playing with the children. Sara took great pride in gardening and could make anything grow from the smallest of seeds. Her beautiful array of flowers brought sunshine and happines to the residents of Ensor Forest Apartments where she lived prior to entering the nursing home. She enjoyed staying busy, whether it was volunteering, meticulously cleaning her apartment, gardening, reading, putting puzzles together or doing word searches. She was an excellent seamstress, often making patterns herself out of brown paper bags.. Survivors include sister-in-law Mary McKeown of Blythewood, nieces Elisa Large (Thomas) of Summerville, Deloris Long (Lewis) of Rock Hill, nephews Ronnie Going of Chapin and Dudley Adams (Hazel) of Union. Special great niece Kristina Large and several other great nieces and nephews. Sara was predeceased by the love of her life husband Walter "Sonny" Lemaster, and also husbands Glenn Payne and Lloyd Tanner, her parents, sister Margaret Adams, and brothers Reginald, Joe, James and O.T. Going. The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion given to our loved one over the last 6 years, and Hospice Tri County for their assistance in providing comfort, companionship and support during the last days of her life. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 3:00pm at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel, 1247 South Duncan Bypass, Union, SC, conducted by her nephew Ronnie Going. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Mount Joy Baptist Church Cemetary, Kelton, SC. Flowers are welcomed, and memorials may also be sent to Alzheimers Research.
