WATER BACK OF STOVE FROZE When Fire Was Made in the Range in Preparation For Morning Meal Accident Happened – Two Others in the Room Also Injured. While standing around the cookstove watching the progress of the morning meal, Mrs. Samuel Molesworth, residing about one mile east of Kemptown, was fatally injured when the water-back exploded hurling pieces of the range against her head. With Mrs. Molesworth at the time were her daughter-in-law, Mrs. James Molesworth, and Miss Watkins, both of whom were injured, but not seriously. The accident happened about 7 o'clock this morning. Breakfast was being prepared and fire had been made in the range. During the night the fire had died out and the water-back froze. The fire caused the expansion of the pipes and without a warning, the explosion followed, the women standing about the stove unable to make for a place of safety. Flying pieces of the iron from the stove struck Mrs. Samuel Molesworth in the head. The top of her skull was blown off and with it went a considerable portion of the brain. She was hurled the distance of the room. Miss Watkins and Mrs. James Molesworth were struck by the flying parts and both were slightly injured. Miss Watkins was burned about her arms and was considerably shocked. Mrs. James Molesworth was also shocked. She was thrown a distance of about ten feet. The explosion immediately attracted the men of the house. They hurriedly summoned Dr. L. D. Chaney, of Mt. Airy, who arrived in a short time and did everything possible to relieve the sufferings of the injured. It was impossible to find part of Mrs. Molesworth's skull, so great was the explosion. The kitchen was wrecked. Windows and doors were blown out and everything in the room was thrown into a chaotic state. Mrs. Molesworth is aged about 55 years. She died at 1:10 p.m. Her husband and one son survive.
