Description	:	Services were held Monday, Feb. 9 at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church for Sarafern Johnson, who died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. She was 94 years old. Officiating during the service was the Rev. David Young. Honorary pallbearers were Oren Johnson, Alan Johnson, and Charles Singer. Pallbearers were Cory Cottam, Darrel Buller, Jeremy Woods, Randy Woods, Bernard Kaskie, and Marlyn Jacobson. Interment was in the Lennox Cemetery. Sarafern Gerken was born Aug. 14, 1914 at Lennox, SD, the daughter of Ben J. and Delia (Krull) Gerken. She grew up in Lennox where he father owned and operated a butcher house. She completed grade school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1932. On July 3, 1943 she was united in marriage to Lee B. Johnson at Hartington, NE. Following their marriage they lived in Lennox and then moved to Ravinia, SD where they owned and operated a cafe. In 1954 they moved to Mesquite, NE where they lived until 1997 when they moved back to Lennox. Her husband died on Mar. 8, 2001, ending a marriage of over 57 years. She continued to live in Lennox and became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in 2005. Sarafern was a member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her father on January 30, 1945; her mother on March 17, 1973; her sister, Ardell Gerken in 1928 and her brother, Arvid Gerken . Grateful for having shared her life are three sons: Oren Lee, Alan Ray and Randall Vaun Johnson, all of Mesquite, NV; one daughter: Lori Lyn Singer and her husband, Charles, of Mesquite, NV; 14 grandchildren: 30 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Gladys Johnson of Sioux Falls, Joyce Kaskie and her husband, Bernard, of Lennox and Ruth Schrader of Maple Grove, MN; plus several nieces and nephews.
