Mrs Coonrod,s death occureed at that family home on West Harrison streetv last Saturday night at 11:P30 o,clock which followed a brief illness do to Paralysis. She was eighty - eight years of age and for seventy - seven years a resident of White County. Sh was a woman of deep convictions and always stood for the things that are right. Mrs Coonrod and daugther Miss Alice moved to the city from their home in Liberty township several years ago. The funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoonat 1;30 o,clock. Rev. J M Fross officiating. Interment was made in the Riverview Cemetery, Following is a sketch of Mrs Coonrod,s life which was read at the funeral. Sarah Ann Coonrod was born in Preble County Ohio, the daugther of John Van Cleve and Katherine Reed Shields, on September 25 , 1837 and entered into rest September 26 , 1925 at the age of eighty - eight years and one day. Her parents with their family came to Indiana and settled in Carroll County when the deceased was about ten years of age and then removed to White County ,where all the rest of her live was spent. She reunited in marriage to Washington Custer on Feb 12 , 1857. To this union were born three sons , John and Isaac, both died in infancy and William F. who survives. Her husband died February, 1863 while serviving his country in the Civil War. On October 18, 1863 she was united in marriage to William Coonrod. To this union were born five children, Morton, Nettie May Martin, and John Adam who died at infancy. Ida Alice and Josiah. Besides the children named, one step daugther, Mary Coonrod Childers. She also took in her home and gave a mother,s care Lucious Custer who was a orphan nephew of her first husband. Mrs Coonrod was one of twelve children, thre dying in infancy. One brother John Shields died durning the Civil War. Two brothers Isaac B. and Samuel David and one sister, Mary Jane Imlar have preceded her in death. Three brothers Allen B. , Christob David, Joshua R. Shields and one sister, Margaret Shields Carahan survive also fifteen grandchildren. Mr Coonrod died Feburary 6 , 1881 and Mrs Coonrod took up the burden of caring for her children alone and alone and nobley was her duty performed. She was a ideal mother a kind and helpful neighbor and friend. Yet mourns ye not as those whose spirits lightis quenched for her past is sealed she may not fall, she may not cast her brightness hope away: all is not hers of our belevel and bleat leave ye the sleeper with her God to rest.
