McNeill. The family was present at the bedside of the dying wife and mother administering to her wants with tender devotion, when the fell destroyer claimed her for his own. The bereaved family accepted the decree with sorrowful solicitude. Sarah Ann Snyder Lawton was born in Butler county, Penn., January 25, 1830, moved with her parents to Marshall county, Ind., and from there to Livingstone county, Illinois, where she met and married Merritt H. Williams March 10, 1862, and who died October 31 of the same year. The fruits of this marriage was one daughter, Mary S. Williams, who was married in 1871 to I.S. Morgan and now resides at Halbur. In January 1866, the deceased was again married to Wm. E. Lawton, who still survives her. In May 1873, the parents moved from Illinois to Carroll, where they have since made their home, living a quiet and contented life in the midst of a devoted family of children. Two sons and two daughters was the result of this long union: Frank T., who died when but four months old; Merritt E., who was married in 1886 and resides at Worthington, Minn.; Lucy M., was married in April, 1885, to G.M. Mohler and resides in Grant township this county; and Julia A., who was married in 1887 to J.A. McNeil of this city. The deceased had been ailing for the past year and a half, since she suffered a severe attack of la grippe, and from which she never thoroughly recovered. Since last May she and her husband have resided with their daughter, Mrs. McNeill. About five weeks ago she was compelled to give up and take to her bed from which she never arose. The deceased was in her 66th year and when the final hour came she gave up this life without a murmur or a struggle. The funeral occurred this afternoon at three o'clock from the residence, Rev. Chas. A. Zorbaugh officiating. The relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their affliction.
