Her parents were married there in Hopewell Township and it was one stopping point in her parents' move west to Indiana and finally Linn County, Iowa, about 1837 where her father was a missionary and United Brethren preacher. She met Asa Harrow in Linn County,Iowa, and was married there. Thereafter she and Asa are difficult to trace after their last appearance in 1854 Iowa State census. They had, however, gone to Northern California, perhaps part of a minor gold rush that was short-lived. Two of Asa's brothers also went to Northern California and all three brothers are found in the 1866 California voters registration living in the Eel River Township of Humboldt county. In a letter of February 12, 1866, from Hydesville to her mother, there is discussion of a deed transferring property that her husband had taken care of, that proceeds should be sent by Wells Fargo in gold or silver and definitely not in greenbacks, and that Asa had returned "from the north" but with little money. Her daughter Mary Ann has her own note attached to her grandma. The second from May 2, 1868, says Asa had taken off and was staying not too far away, the name of her new baby "Emma Luvica Joesfeen Harrow" about eight months old that May and requesting money be sent so she can come home for a visit. Sarah appears to have separated from Asa and moved around with her children. 1870 & 1880 census returns (with enigmatic spellings of Harrow) are found of her in Napa and Santa Clara counties, California. She is unambiguously found in the 1900 Eureka census, widowed, working as a servant for a physician and reporting 6 of 8 children living. Sarah and Asa were not the only family members to come to Humboldt county. James and Noah Webster Harrow are also there, as mentioned, and Noah was a preacher of the United Brethren Church - the same denomination as Sarah's father. Sarah's bachelor brother, Lewis Miller Troup, had also come to California - reportedly from family sources as part of the gold rush and also is difficult to trace. He was in Humboldt County in the 1890's and the 1900 census as a farmer. In addition her sister, Rachel Elizabeth Troup Harmer in 1900 was living in Mendocino county with her family.
