Sadie was born on September 26, 1900 in Leavitt, Alberta, the eighth child of Thomas R. Leavitt Jr. and Alice Shaw, Cardston Pioneers. Sadie married Bert B. Matkin on January 19,1922. They remained and farmed in Leavitt until she moved to Cardston. She was beloved by all who knew her for her kindness, love and service. Sadie was born on September 26, 1900 in Leavitt, Alberta, the eighth child of Thomas R. Leavitt Jr. and Alice Shaw, Cardston Pioneers. Sadie married Bert B. Matkin on January 19,1922. They remained and farmed in Leavitt until she moved to Cardston. She was beloved by all who knew her for her kindness, love and service. She was a faithful member of her Church; she served as teacher and leader in all church organizations. She was an excellent cook; her meals were legendary. She was employed as cook in the L.D.S. Mission Home, Calgary; she was the first cook in the Chinook Lodge, Cardston, and was employed at the Blood Indian Hospital, Cardston. Sarah began residency in the Chinook Lodge in January 1970 and remained there until transferring to the Grandview Nursing Home in January 1990. Sarah continued throughout her life as an inspiration and example of service. She used her hobbies of word puzzles and crocheting to bless those she loved. All of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends have been recipients of one or more afghans and coat hangers that she has made. She is survived by three children: Garth (Vi) of Cardston, Donald (Lena) of Calgary, and Reta (John) Van Da Walker of Las Vegas; two nieces who lived with her: Pat (Paul) Stanford of Calgary and Lois (Ray) Rodevolt of Vancouver Island; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister Alice (Irvin) Olsen of Cardston; numerous nieces and nephews to whom she will always be "Aunt Sadie". She was predeceased by her husband Bert; her parents, two grandchildren and 12 brothers and sisters.
