Glass Died at Home of Daughter Early Tuesday Had Large Family Was Resident of the Independence Community for Many Years Death claimed another of Tipton County's beloved pioneer women Tuesday, when Mrs. Sarah C. Glass, 82 years of age, died at the house of her daughter, Mrs. Edna Hofer, just south of Sharpsville, death being due to infirmities of age. Mrs. Glass, widow of the late George W. Glass, had been at the home of the daughter for some time, and for the past week her condition had been extremely critical. Following the death the body was brought to the Young funeral home on West Jefferson Street for preparation and to await arrangements of services. Sarah C. Glass was a daughter of Squire Smith, one of the pioneers of the Normanda community, and was the second wife of George W. Glass, prominent farmer of the Independence community for many years. His first wife was Miss Hannah Clark, mother of Mrs. William Findling of the county, Mrs. Theodosia Manlove, wife of George Manlove of Fresno, Calif., and Wright Glass of Nevada. Sarah C. (Smith) Glass was the mother of Mrs. Edna Hofer, Emerson Glass, Ray Glass and Mrs. Edith Ludwig, all of this county, and Mrs. Walter Ramey [Hazel (Glass) Plumer, who had remarried] residing on Route 2, Atlanta. She was the mother of four other children, four having preceded her to the grave. John Smith of 457 North Oak Street is a half-brother of the deceased. Besides her children Mrs. Glass is survived by a large number of grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. For many years Mrs. Glass resided in the Independence community where the homestead farm is located, it consisting of 110 acres and has never been divided, the deceased having a life estate. Mrs. Glass was a deeply religious woman and one who loved family and friends and as a neighbor she was sought by many.
