Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Thursday , April 9th, 1931 - Reese Drury, well known resident of Early and brother of James Drury of Storm Lake, whose wife died Tuesday and was buried Thursday, died Friday in his home there of influenza and complications, while his son, Ollie, lies very seriously ill with the same sickness, which cost his mother and father their lives. Mr. and Mrs. Drury were pioneer residents of Sac county, having lived near and in Early for 51 years. Mr. Drury was 73 years old and Mrs. Drury was 72. When Mr. and Mrs. Drury came to Sac county in 1880, it was practically raw prairie, and there were, but few settlers in that community. The first year they were unable to get coal and were compelled to burn corn. Their nearest town was Sac City and when they started with a team to go to town they traveled straight across the country. There were no fences or fields to hinder their progress. Surviving are seven children: Rash L. and Ollie Reese, of Early; Charles Roosevelt, of Starbuck, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Jensen and Mrs. Henry Reinhart of Early; Mrs. Louise Simpson of New Hampton, and Mrs. Clarence Steele of Lidderdale; 24 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and other relatives and countless friends. Two sons, twins, died In infancy. Among those from Storm Lake attending the funerals Included Mr. and Mrs. James Drury, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Campton and Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Blair.
