Read More	The Iowa Recorder Greene, Butler County, Iowa Wednesday, March 5, 1913 Grandma Doore Sarah Cushing was born in Dover, Maine, on the 29th day of January, 1818, and died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nancie Young, near Greene, Iowa, Feb. 26, 1913, at the ripe old age of 95 years and 26 days. In her early childhood, her parents removed to Atkinson, Me., where she grew to womanhood, and where, on the 26th day of Nov., 1834, she was united in marriage to Mr. Joel Doore. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. Her three daughters, Mrs. Eliza Ramsdell, Mrs. Nancie Young, and Mrs. Pauline Huckins, survive her. Numerous grandchildren, ten great grand children and two great great grandchildren also remain to greatly miss her. She was baptized in the Christian faith and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, in May, 1833, thus giving her almost eighty years of splendid service for the Master to whom she dedicated her young life. Many will be thankful for the great privilege of witnessing her devotion to her Lord, which was manifested in a quiet, unobtrusive manner, a strong and unwavering faith, and a beautifully patient, Christian spirit. Mrs. Doore was a woman of strong character, with clear and positive views on the subjects which she investigated and mastered, with good judgment in the common affairs of life, and a true friend to her friends. She was universally esteemed and respected. In 1870, she came with her husband, to Iowa, and located in Pleasant Grove, in Floyd county, which remained her home until the death of her husband on April 24, 1907, when she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Young, where she calmly and sweetly filled out the remaining years of her life. To have known and come under the benign influence of her beautiful life was a benediction. As this last winter of her life brought la grippe and weakness, she calmly and positively declared that the end of her life was near at hand, and that she was glad of it; that her work was done and that she wanted to go home. She shrank from being a burden to her friends, but her friends counted it not a burden to care for her and to make her days as pleasant as was possible. The funeral services, on account of the very serious illness of Mrs. Young, were conducted in the home of Mrs. Ramsdell, by her pastor, the Rev. L.L. Lockard. Appropriate music was rendered by Mrs. Boardman and Miss Ellis, and her body was laid to rest beside her husband in Pleasant Grove cemetery. --------- Cards of Thanks.
