Mrs. Sarah E. Johnson departed this life Saturday, July 12, 1890, after an illness of two weeks at the age of 60 years.Sarah Edmundson was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, March 27, 1830 and resided there until 1860, when with her parents she moved to Keokul county, Iowa. In 1862, she was united in marriage to Seymour R. Johnson from which union six children have been born. In 1883, the family moved to Dickinson county, residing part of the time on their farm near Carlton and in Abilene. Mrs. Johnson has been enjoying good health until Saturday a week ago, when she was suddenly taken with cramps in the bowels, but no serious trouble was anticipated by the family until last Tuesday, when she was seized with a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. The brain and right side were completely paralyzed and she remained in a stupor until her death. Mrs. Johnson was a kind, christian woman, loved and respected by all with whom she came in contact. Her noble qualities and bright disposition made her hosts of warm friends who sincerely mourn her departure. The sorrowing family, consisting of a husband in five surviving children--four boys and one girl--have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of sorrow. The eldest boy was not present at her death, residing in California and being unable to reach here in time. The intimate friends of Mrs. Johnson truthfully say "the world is better for her having lived in it." The funeral services were held yesterday at the residence, conducted by Rev. W. H. Zimmerman, the interment being in the Abilene cemetery, "There is no death; What seems so is transition; This life of mortal breath is but a suberb of the life Elysian, Whose portal we call death."Card of Thanks We wish to express our sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother.
