They had two daughters, Lizzie Maye Gilligan, who married John Gardner Owen, and Maude Sophronia, who married Harry Harlon Hoisington. Walter and Sarah Henry Gilligan were included in the South Dakota 1910 US census. According to "Genealogy of the Descendents of John Henry . . ." Walter Gilligan died in Athens, Ohio, 25 Jan 1912; he and his wife were living around that time with their daughter Maude's family (in South Dakota). Athens Messenger, 10 May 1919: News of the death at Mitchell (sic), South Dakota of Mrs. Sarah Henry Gilligan, age 78, was received here last evening. Mrs. Gilligan was the widow of the late Walter Gilligan and was a resident of Ames township nearly all her life. A few years ago she went to South Dakota to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Hoisington. Another daughter, Mrs Lizzie Owens, is also left. The funeral party will arrive in Athens Monday night and the body will be brot (sic) here for burial. Athens Messenger, 14 May 1919: Sarah E Henry, daughter of James and Sophronia Goodspeed Henry and wife of Walter Gilligan of Amesville, Ohio, departed this life 8 May 1919, age 78, 1 month, 2 days. Her last illness was short, as she was sick but eight days and the end came peacefully at the home of her daughter Mrs. Harry Hoisington, Madison South Dakota. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Owen of Springfield Ohio, and Mrs. Maude Hoisington, also by two sisters Mrs. Mary Hedge of Delaware, Ohio and Mrs Flora Rhinehart of San Diego, California. Mrs. Gilligan united with the Amesville Presbyterian Church in 1870 and was a member of that organization for almost 40 years, later uniting with a church of that denomination in her Western home. Funeral services were held in the Amesville church 13 May 1919, conducted by Rev A M Chapin and burial made in the cemetery near by were (sic; where?) husband, parents and kindred lie. Mrs. Gilligan was well and favorably known by a wife circle of relatives and friends about Amesville, where the greater part of her life was spent, she being a granddaughter of John Henry, a pioneer of that community. Athens Messenger, 17 May 1919: After services at the Presbyterian Church by Rev Chaplin, Tuesday forenoon, the body of Mrs. Sarah Henry Gilligan was interned beside that of her husband, a resident here for half a century. The relatives accompanying the . . . were her daughter Mrs. Lizzie Owen, and her daughter Miss Nettle (sic; Nettie?) of Springfield, Ohio, and son-in-law Harry Hoisington of Michel, S.D.
