SILK: On April 15, 1963, while visiting with her niece, Mrs. Fred Strong at Bolton, Mrs. William H. Silk, 71, of Shelburne, passed away very suddenly. Mrs. Silk, the former Sarah (Sadie) Elizabeth Pallister, was born on Manitoulin Island, where she lived until she was six years old with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Pallister, and other members of her family. After leaving the island she spent several years in Proton Township before moving to Melancthon Township on Highway 10, south-east of Dundalk. Here she was married in 1918 to William Henry Silk of Corbetton. Mr. and Mrs. Silk farmed on the Back Line, Melancthon, until 1933. They operated a general store in Horning's Mills for almost seven years before moving to Toronto. Following her husband's death in 1946, Mrs. Silk lived alternately in Toronto and Shelburne. She was living in the latter place at the time of her demise. Left to mourn her passing are two daughters and two sons: Rilla (Mrs. Harry Besley) and Viola (Mrs. Warren Robinson) of Toronto, George of Shelbume, Fred of Barrie, and 16 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers George E. of Toronto, John A. of St. Catherines, and sisters (Mrs. C. B. Lewis (Margaret) of Oshawa, Mrs. George Wilson (Florence) of Toronto, and Mrs. Albert Wilson (Christina) of Humber Summit. She was predeceased by three sisters. Mrs. Silk was a sincere Christian, a loved and loving friend, and will not soon be forgotten by members of her family and numerous friends. The funeral service was held on Thursday, April 18, in the Gamble Funeral Chapel, Shelburne Cemetery. Rev. R. P. Bates of the United Church conducted the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. Bob Francis, Elwyn Wilson, Lloyd Wilson, Don Gillies, Ellwood Squirrell and Gordon Pallister. Flowerbearers were grand sons: John and Bob Besley; Ken, Gordon and Donnie Silk; Jim Robinson; Billie Silk and a nephew, Glen Pallister. Numerous floral tributes and memoriams were gratefully acknowledged by the family. Shelburne Free Press & Economist -May 1,1963
