She attended school and grew to womanhood in and around Leon. On October 16, 1878, in the home of Dr. Daniels in Davis City, Iowa she was married to John Calvin Bullard; Dr. Daniels, who was a brother-in-law of Mr. Bullard officiating. She attended school and grew to womanhood in and around Leon. On October 16, 1878, in the home of Dr. Daniels in Davis City, Iowa she was married to John Calvin Bullard; Dr. Daniels, who was a brother-in-law of Mr. Bullard officiating. They went to housekeeping on a farm near Elk Chapel where she was a mother to her four step-sons: James Reuben, John Calvin, Enos Cordell and Harry Royal. To this marriage seven children were born: the first a daughter, Minnie Caroline. The family then moved to Kellerton where Frank Garfield, Lizzie May, Florence Elnora, Charles Benjamin, Rosa Pearle, and Harley Thomas were born. Mrs. Bullard was a kind and loving wife and mother. Her husband, who was a Civil War veteran, died in 1912, after which she moved to Leon where she has since resided. She was a lover of the more beautiful things in life; her home, flowers, her family, the church, and willing to lend a helping hand where needed. She had continued living in her own home until her health prevented, after which she spent some time with her children, then later made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Elwell until her last illness when she was taken to the Decatur County hospital where she very quietly passed away Sunday morning, May 13, 1951, at the age of 89 years 5 months, and 26 days. Those left to mourn her passing are one step-son, Harry R. of Des Moines, Iowa; her children, Frank G. of Ottumwa; unable to attend becuse of illness; Mrs. Lizzie May Akes, of Leon; Mrs. Florence Elnora Fletcher, of Hopeville, Iowa; Mrs. Rosa Pearle Ellis, Portland, Oregon; and Harley O. of Leon. All of whom were able to be with their mother during her last illness and death. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, one great, great grandson and other relatives and friends. Funeral services, conducted (sic) by Rev. John McCallum were held in the Slade Funeral Home Tuesday, May 15, 1951 at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
