Berry, passed away at her home in Marshalltown, on Thursday, July 27, 1911, aged 48 years, 10 months and 6 days. Nellie Thompson, daughter of Lee and Dorcas Thompson, was born four or five miles north of Eddyville in East Des Moines township, on September 21, 1862. She was married to L.G. Berry, brother of W.G. Berry, of Eddyville, the ceremony being performed at Albion on May 25, 1881. After residing at Albion for about seventeen years they removed to Marshalltown in about the year 1898, and Mr. Berry had since been in business at that place. Two children, a son and a daughter Miss Fay and Frank, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Berry, and they, together with the husband, two brothers, John Thompson, living north of Eddyville, Clay Thompson, of Seattle, Washington, and one half sister, Mrs. Jane Kitt. of Missoula, Montana, remain to mourn the death of this estimable lady. Mrs. Berry had been ill for some time, suffering from what was thought to be cancer of the liver. Last spring a surgical operation was attempted, but it was found that a hardened condition of the organ had taken place and nothing could be done to afford permanent relief. She, however, rallied and was able to be about again before death finally came to her relief. The funeral, which was private, was held from the home the Saturday following her death. Rev. McGee, a Baptist minister, officiated, and interment was made in the beautiful Riverside cemetery at Marshalltown. Mrs. Berry's mother, Mrs. Dorcas Thompson, passed away at Marshalltown last autumn and the remains were brought to Eddyville for burial. Mrs. Berry will be best remembered by the old settlers living north of town, though no doubt others have met her when she has come back to Eddyville to visit among the relatives and friends of her old home.
