Description	:	Sarah Ellen Vickers Perkins of Tallahassee, died peacefully on May 4, 2014. She was 103. Sarah was born on July 18, 1910 in Concord, FL. She was the oldest daughter of John Earl and Ella Poppell Vickers and had 3 sisters and 5 brothers, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from high school as salutatorian of the class of 1926 from Gadsden County. In September of 1930 she married Robert Lee Perkins, and together they had three sons. Read More	Sarah Ellen Vickers Perkins of Tallahassee, died peacefully on May 4, 2014. She was 103. Sarah was born on July 18, 1910 in Concord, FL. She was the oldest daughter of John Earl and Ella Poppell Vickers and had 3 sisters and 5 brothers, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from high school as salutatorian of the class of 1926 from Gadsden County. In September of 1930 she married Robert Lee Perkins, and together they had three sons. Sarah was a resident of Tallahassee for over 62 years and charter member of Seminole Baptist Church. One of the greatest pleasures in her life was tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Her ability to grow seemingly anything anywhere was a skill appreciated by both family and friends. Sarah had a variety of jobs throughout the years, but her favorite was her more than 15 years as a docent at The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science (formerly The Tallahassee Junior Museum). It was there that her skills as a natural storyteller and ability to connect with people of all ages were spotlighted. Sarah is survived by her sons, Douglas (Nancy), Dewitt (Cynthia) and Robert Earl (Lois); seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1989. A graveside service will be held at Concord Cemetery in Concord, FL on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Gary Linton officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Sarah’s name to the Seminole Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL or The Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science.
