Description	:	This community was shocked to hear on Wednesday night, March 2, 1932, that Mrs Miles W Corbett had passed away at the Starr Home, at Charles City, Iowa, where she had made her home for the past year and a half. Mrs Corbett can well be classed as one of the pioneers of Melbourne, for it was in 1883 she and her husband, Miles W Corbett, came to this community. Read More	This community was shocked to hear on Wednesday night, March 2, 1932, that Mrs Miles W Corbett had passed away at the Starr Home, at Charles City, Iowa, where she had made her home for the past year and a half. Mrs Corbett can well be classed as one of the pioneers of Melbourne, for it was in 1883 she and her husband, Miles W Corbett, came to this community. Since that date they were closely associated with all civic and social activities until the infirmities of age forced them to retire. Mr Corbett preceded her in death on January 24, 1930, he having reached the age of 85 years. Mrs Miles W Corbett was born Sarah Ellis, the daughter of Reuben Ellis and Rebecca Farris. She was born in the state of Ohio, November 24, 1845. Only two of her immediate family survive, one sister, Mrs Jennie Corns of Rose Hill, Iowa and one brother, Charles Ellis, of Grand Junction, Colorado, two brothers and four sisters preceding Mrs Corbett in death. Mrs Corbett had attained the age of 86 years, 3 months and 8 days. During the latter part of the sixties, the deceased came from Ohio to make her home with an uncle, George Ellis, at Raymond, Black Hawk county, Iowa, and it was here that she met Miles W Corbett, who she married on July 4, 1871. To this union were born eight children, G T Corbett, State Center; Mrs Myrtle Biddick, Rockford; Harry K Corbett, druggist at Melbourne; and Floyd M Corbett, Oskaloosa. Four children have passed from this life, Milo at the age of 24 at Melbourne; Ernest at the age of 46 at Sheldon; Charles at the age of 5 in California and one infant in Nebraska. Eight grandchildren also survive. From 1874 to 1881, Mr and Mrs Corbett lived in Saline county, Nebraska, then they moved to Los Angeles, California. In the spring of 1882 they returned to Iowa and located at Van Cleve and in 1883 came to Melbourne where the lived until Mr Corbett passed away. Six months after her husband's death Mrs Corbett entered the Starr Home at Charles City, where she made her home until her death. Mrs Corbett was always full of energy, always looking toward the pleasant side of life, always happy and contented, living solely for her family and their interest. She worked hard, sacrificed much, and complained none although at times adversity stared her in the face. She lived in hope and faith that there was a better life in store for her some time in that mission not made with hands Eternal in the Heavens. Many years ago she professed Christ and studied the Bible diligently and several years ago affiliated herself with the Church of Christ. Since the death of her beloved husband, for whom she patiently cared throughout the years of his blindness and ill health, she expressed herself as ready to depart this life and go to her Savior, where she could again be with her mate of many years. She is at rest with them now. Funeral services were held at the Christian church, Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev P G Dennis, pastor of the Central Church of Christ of Marshalltown. Burial was made in the Rhodes cemetery. March 10, 1932 State Center Enterprise.
