She was united in marriage with Thomas Haynes February 22, 1855. To this union were born three children, Cora Bell and Daniel, now deceased, and Thomas J. of Akron, Iowa. On December 24, 1867, she was united in marriage with Duncan McLarand, who died in Rochester, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1883. To this union were born four children, Margaret Peden and William of Rochester and Geo. W. of Tipton, all of whom were with her at the time of her decease, and Clara Irene, who died in 1886. Mrs. McLarand was with one exception, at the time of her death the oldest resident in Cedar county, having come here with her parents in the spring of 1837, when only five years of age. She was one of the pioneer teachers of the county, having taught in the 50's and at intervals after the close of the civil war. Some who have later taken an active part in the affairs of the county were her pupils in an early day. She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of thirteen and took an active interest in church work as long as her health and strength would permit. She was one of our pioneer Sunday school superintendents, having served as such a number of years. Although in poor health for a number of years she came to the final end peacefully. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in the late sickness and death of our dear mother. Margaret Peden Wm. McLarand Geo. W. McLarand Her death record located at the Cedar county courthouse in book 2 pg 165, states that she was buried 29 March 1915 at the Rochester cemetery and that her parents were Daniel and Ellen Hare.
