McCollough, interment at Hebbardsville. The deceased was 21 years old. (Athens County Gazette, Thursday, September 7, 1899) Sarah Jane Riley, daughter of G. W. and Sarah Riley, was born in Rome township, Athens county, O., April 17, 1878, and died September 2, 1899, aged 21 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was the youngest daughter or a family of nine children, five daughters and four sons; two sisters having preceded her to that mysterious realm. One son is left with the parents to cheer and comfort the home, yet they sorrow not as those who have no hope. For nearly a year Janie had been an invalid, and the careful, loving solicitations of the parents we only equaled by the genuine worth, the patient, tender disposition of her whose sickness only served to bring out in brighter colors. Henceforth the bleeding hearts pierced by the ruthless destroyer of all earthly ties, will turn for consolation to the loving memories of her who has gone from the home, cheered and soothed by the sweet faith of the Christ and that after a few more years these broken ties will be reunited never again to be (unreadable section) she has left bright evidence that all is well with her soul as the attitude and faith of a Christian characterized all of her actions during her last illness. And while dear friends were tenderly and pathetically watching the inroads that that fatal disease consumption was making upon the vital forces of her young life, she said, "Mamma, what is the matter." and passed to the shores of eternal deliverance. Funeral services at Hebbardsville, conducted by Rev. A. E. McCullough. (Athens County Gazette, Thursday, September14, 1899)
