Description	:	Sarah Judd 7th child of Ira & Hannah Judd spent her young life in her parents home on the farm near Strafford Orange Co Vermont. We can readily think that after her meager advantages for an education at the district school in those early days some of the pleasant duties of her young womanhood were spinning & weaving the 100 lbs of flax the father gave as a dowry to each of his daughters from which she spun and wove all her bed linen, table linen & towels. We can readily think that after her meager advantages for an education at the district school in those early days some of the pleasant duties of her young womanhood were spinning & weaving the 100 lbs of flax the father gave as a dowry to each of his daughters from which she spun and wove all her bed linen, table linen & towels. She was married Sept 25 1831 in Strafford Vt to Horace Burras Royce of Irasburg Vt born May 7 1806. They immediately went to Irasburg where he had worked for years in a mill for dyeing & dressing woolen fabrics. His wife assisted in the factory her early experience doubtless served to make her an efficient helper. They remained in Irasburg several years the two older children being born there. They then journeyed Westward to Genesee Co. N.Y. in 1834 and in 1838 they moved to Burlington Wisconsin making the trip by team & wagon. After a few years they went on a farm at Janesville Wis where they spent several years. In 1860 they moved to Poweshiek Co Ia being happily rewarded securing a section or more of land. When this aged couple needed quiet & rest their children built a cottage near the home of the eldest son & here this aged couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Sept 25 1881 with all their children and grandchildren attending. On August 25 1883 the father was called away at the age of 77 and after 18 yrs the mother was called Jan 12 1901 at the age of 94 years. Both are buried in the cemetery at Malcom, Iowa, Poweshiek Co." -much of this is taken verbatim from Philip Judd and His Descendants by Caroline Judd McDowell, 1923.
