Mrs. Sarah Lavina Johnson Thompson was born at Mexico, N.Y., October 8, 1892; died at Mitchell Nebr., August 22, 1908, age 55 years, 10 months, 14 days. Her last days were spent visiting her daughter Mrs. Geo. Whitman of Mitchell. She was married May 1, 1873, to Mr. James W. Thompson, with whom she came west in 1879 to enter upon the duties of pioneer days in central Nebraska, residing in Lee Park. In early girlhood she united with the church and was closely allied with all its interests. For many years she taught the ever-changing “Little Tots” class in Sunday school and a host of young people now recall the impressions of her teaching. The little ones of her class held a warm place in her heart and she remembered them lovingly, requesting that her little scholars be most prominent, dressing in white and bearing the flowers during the last rites. She suffered little, being ill but a week. Characteristically calm and thoughtful of others even at the very last, she knew she was going home and longed with absolute faith for the time of her departure. She leaves a husband, son and daughter to tenderest memories of her sweet life. Mr. Thompson and Clyde arrived in Mitchell in time to be with her for her farewell and blessing. They and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Whitman accompanied the remains to the final resting place in the Lee Park cemetery near her old home. Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church yesterday at 10 o'clock at which there was a large crowd present. A short address was given by Rev. Matthews of Sargent after which Rev. A. Brink preached the farewell sermon. At 11 o'clock the remains were taken to the Lee Park cemetery where it was laid to rest.
