Description	:	OBITUARY Sarah L. Rush was born near Louisville, Ky., April 7, 1838. Her mother and father dying and leaving her a child of 7 years. She came to Iowa with her grandparents. After proving upon their claim they afterwards located in Milton where they were engaged in the hotel business, where they reared and educated her to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Wm. Read More	OBITUARY Sarah L. Rush was born near Louisville, Ky., April 7, 1838. Her mother and father dying and leaving her a child of 7 years. She came to Iowa with her grandparents. After proving upon their claim they afterwards located in Milton where they were engaged in the hotel business, where they reared and educated her to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Wm. Guthrie in August 1861, the undertaker and cabinet maker of this place. To this union were born 12 children, four dying in infancy. The husband and father dying and leaving them March 24, 1889. Her son, John William, and daughter Anna Lee, preceding her to the better land. She leaves to mourn her loss Mrs. Martha Moore, of Bloomfield; Mrs. Ellen Luman, of Moulton; Mrs. Sadie McCrary, of Moriarty, New Mexico; Mrs. Laura McClurg, of Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Stella Elder, of Memphis, Mo., and Miss Mary Guthrie, who remained and cared for her during her declining years. She also leaves ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was a woman much loved and respected by all who knew her, and her field of labor was her home where she lived in happiness with her husband and children. Coming to Milton in the early pioneer days, she had lived here more than half a century and when we contemplate the past changes that have taken place during the time Mrs. Guthrie has lived to witness; from ox cart to automobile and airplane, from a spinning wheel to the great textile factories of today; from a sailing vessel to the trans-oceanic liner is only to mention a small part of the changes that have affected the lives and thought of the world within the life of a single generation. She united with the M.E. church under the pastorate of Bro Lafe Carroll, remaining faithful until death. She departed from this life Jan. 16, 1923. A good life spent, a good life ended. She had no pain. She just went to sleep in Jesus. O, for me may such a blissful refuge be Securely shall my ashes lie and wait the summons from on high. Asleep in Jesus, Peaceful rest from which none ever awake to weep. Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church, Thursday afternoon, by her pastor, Rev. W.W. Whitman, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the north cemetery.
