Crouse Laid to Her Final Rest Tuesday Sarah M. Randall, daughter of James H. Randall and Sarah A. Hull Randall, was born at Lewiston, Ill., Jan. 16, 1850, and died Dec. 10, 1927, aged 77 years, 10 months and 24 days. In the spring of 1868 she was married to Daniel W. Crouse, to whom were born eleven children, ten of whom are still living. In the spring of 1870 they with their eldest son drove in a covered wagon to Seward county, Nebraska, taking a homestead in K precinct and living in the wagon box until they built a sod house , which was the prevailing style of farm home at that time. Coming from a family with a line of doctors she had a remarkable knowledge of medicine and a natural instinct of the treatment of the numerous ailments incident to childhood and youth. She was called many, many times to render assistance, which she always freely gave regardless of the weather or time of day or night. One winter when the weather was exceptionally severe, the black diptheria, as it was called, raged in the neighborhood. She successfully warded off the disease from her own brood but cared for two or three other groups of children, chaging her clothes out of doors as she would go and come so as to not carry germs into her house. In early girlhood she united with the M.E. church and many times the little sod house was a place of worship for the neighbors regardless of their affiliations. This liberal spirit in religious belief remained with her to the end, and although she did not attend any church in her later years she had a faithful reliance on Divine Providence and a firm faith in the truths of the Bible. She endeavored at all times to bring her children under the fear and admonition of the Lord. Her husband departed this life May 30, 1915. She leaves to mourn her departure six sons, four daughters, twenty grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and hosts of friends. Funeral services were held from her home Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Hansen of the Federated churches officiating. Interment was in the north cemetery. Seward Independent Democrat, Seward, NE, Thurs, December 15, 1927 The ten children of Mrs. D. W. Crouse gathered in Seward the past week to visit their aged parent, who fell on Armistice Day and sustained a broken hip. She has since been at the Seward hospital, and her condition is quite serious. At times she suffers a great deal, but hopes are entertained that she might recover. although she will be a cripple for the remainder of her lifetime. She will be 78 years of age next month. The children came from five different states to pay her this visit, and it is the first time they have been together since the death of their father in 1915. At the home of J. P. Crouse in Seward Sunday afternoon a group picture was made of the children, who now range in age from 35 to 60 years, Harry Crouse of York being the youngest and the oldest being Ed Crouse of Ft. Smith, Ark. A remarkable feature is that the only death in the family has been that of their father. The names and addresses of the children are as follows: Ed Crouse, Ft. Smith, Ark. Mrs. W. E. Hickman, Windsor, Colo. J. P. Crouse, Seward Mrs. W. L. Blain, Grand Island Otto Crouse, Marysville, Kans. Chas. Crouse, Kearney Mrs. Geo. Hosford, North Platte Mrs. E. M. Biggs, Columbua Elmer Crouse, Casper, Wyo. Harry Crouse, York Mrs. Blain and Mrs. Biggs were accompanied to Seward by their husbands, and Harry Crouse was accompanied by his wife.
