Price Summoned To Her Reward Monday Mrs. C. W. Price, a beloved pioneer mother of Spirit Lake, who had been helpless for more than a year as a result of a stroke, was called to her reward at the Roberts Nursing Home on Monday. The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist church, being conducted by Rev. J.E. Feller, and burial was in the family plot in Lakeview Cemetery. The following obituary was read: It is with hearts full of loving memories that in this hour of remembrance we pay tribute to Sarah Price. Sarah Thomas was born on a farm three miles east of Spirit Lake on the third day of October 1870, the daughter of Webb Thomas and Mary Morgan Thomas. She was the youngest of her mother's five children. She also has a foster sister, Florence Clump, and a half brother, Ernest W. Thomas. Of these, the sole survivor is Ernest Thomas, who lives in Omaha. On November 27, 1890, she was married to Charles Warren Price and was called to Life Eternal on August 26, 1946. Mr. Price preceded her in death on April 10, 1942. Three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Price. They are: Myrtle, Mrs. E.J. Lloyd of Ft. Dodge; Mary, Mrs. F.L.R-Roberts of Spirit Lake, and Virginia, Mrs. W. B. Bedell of Spirit Lake. These daughters, together with their husbands and children, have given unceasing love and care through the years. In addition to the daughters, six grandchildren are left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory. They are Mary Roberts Musgroves of Des Moines; Velma Roberts Stevens of Iowa City, Berkley Bedell of Spirit Lake, Jack Bedell of Spirit Lake, Elaine Lloyd and June Lloyd of Fort Dodge. Also two great grandchildren: Jean Musgrove, age 3 1/2 years, and Marilyn Stevens, two weeks. Mrs. Price was a member of the Methodist church, the Ladies Aid Society, the Cemetery Society and Old Settlers Association. All thru her life she gave interested, willing and capable service to her home, her church and the organizations to which she belonged. On Nov. 27, 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Price, together with relatives and a host of friends, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. In July 1940 Mrs. Price suffered a stroke. This was followed by a second stroke on June 22, 1945, which left her bedfast and helpless. But no physical ailment could dim her smile, the twinkle in her eye or her keen sense of humor. She never lost her interest and love for friends, particularly the younger group who were the associates of her grandchildren and who claimed "Mamie" as their own. They spent many happy hours at the Price home and considered it a rare privilege in the last few years to slip in for a visit and leave feeling better because of "Mamie's" whispered words and loving smile. She would ask for no other tribute than the following essay written by her grandson, Berkley Bedell, while he was a student at Iowa State College in 1941. The essay was read over Radio Station WOI and was a source of pride and joy to Mrs. Price. It was called, "Mamie" and reads as follows: "From as far back as Ican remember "Mamie" has been one of the brightest starslighting my way to happiness. I remember the stories she told me when, as a very small boy, she put me to bed--stories of her pioneer childhood. Hardship was evident in all her stories but she made them sound like wonderful times. She had worked so very hard so that she might rear her children in the best possible manner and give them every advantage. But in spite ofher work she was never too busy to help her friends. Whenever anyone in the community was sick it was always "Mamie" who sat all night by the bedside. I remember how she stayed through the nights with me when I had pneumonia. I knew I was all right as long as "Mamie" was there to take care of me. Her grandchildren were her greatest delight and to most of the youngsters in town, "Mamie's" was the favorite gathering place. Nothing was ever so wonderful as the smell and the taste of her hot rolls, fresh from the oven. Several years ago the Beacon had a subscription contest with an automobile as the prize. At 63 years of age "Mamie" entered the contest. Up and down the street she would go from house to house, her faithful dog at her heels. Having no means of transportation, she could not call on people in the country. She did not have to. They brought their coupons to her. She had more than all the other contestants combined and won the prize. The car was a Taxi for all the crowd. She took us swimming, to ball games, fishing and hunting. At 65 "Mamie" could handle a fly-rod better than any of us. A stroke left the right side of her body paralyzed, but that did not daunt her spirit nor prevent her from supporting the home team at every football game. The Lord may break and bend her physical body as He sees fit but "Mamie" will never be old; she just couldn't be old; she will always be--"Mamie." -----------
