Description	:	Sarah Martin Barber was born about 1746, a daughter of John and Mary McDowell Martin of Scot Irish ancestry. Sarah Martin married John Barber, but it is uncertain if they married in Pennsylvania or the Carolinas. Sarah died at the age of 84 on 2 February 1830. She survived her husband by over 30 years and did not remarry. She is buried with her family in the Bethel Cemetery in York County, SC. Sarah Martin married John Barber, but it is uncertain if they married in Pennsylvania or the Carolinas. Sarah died at the age of 84 on 2 February 1830. She survived her husband by over 30 years and did not remarry. She is buried with her family in the Bethel Cemetery in York County, SC. Her husband is not buried in the same cemetery, but is buried near where they lived when he died in 1799 on land they owned near the Warlick Cemetery in present day Cleveland County. Cleveland County was created from Lincoln and Rutherford Counties in 1841. Lincoln County, NC has preserved the original copies of wills in their files and Sarah's original signature is included in the photos. Her will is also recorded in Lincoln County Will Volume 1 page 188. Sarah Martin Barber’s will Lincoln County, NC, County Court, April Sessions 1830 page 188 In the name of god amen I Sarah Barber of the State of North Carolina & County of Lincoln, being of sound mind and memory & in usual health, do make ordain, constitute and appoint this instrument of writing to be my last Will & Testament do hereby dispose of that worldly property I have been favoured with - 1st I give & bequeath to my daughter Isabella 1 shilling – 2nd to my daughter Sarah one shilling - 3rd to my daughter Catherine one shilling - 4th to my daughter Jean one shilling - 5th I give & bequeath to my daughter Anna my bed & furniture - 6th I give & bequeath to my son John one shilling - 7th I give & bequeath to my son Robert my house & other improvements with that part or third of land left my by my husband, to him his heirs and assigns forever, also all my plantation & carpenter tools also my heath iron – on big pot – pair steelyards – walnut table, meal sill & driper & furniture also my house Bible & Dictionary – The two negroes York & Phillis with their two children Adam & Gilly I renounce all claim to as property. My will is that they enjoy their liberty & freedom & as far as in my power I liberate them from the claim of my heirs or any other person. The two young ones I expect will be a support to their parents in old age – the remainder of my property not particularly specifyed (if any) I allow to be equally divided Between those of my children to whom I mentioned but one shilling and I appoint my son Robert & John Wilson Executors of this my last Will & Testament & I hereby revoke all former Wills & Testaments and declare this & this only to be my last Will & Testament.
