J. C. Harris of Perry. Mrs. Sarah Ayers is well known by all the old settlors at Coon Rapids, having lived at Coon Rapids and in the locality for many years, and was highly esteemed by all her neighbors. She was the mother of Mrs. Dolph McLaughlin and Mrs. Abe Knight and John Ayers of Creston, Silas Ayers of Boonesteel, South Dakota, Mrs. Lewis Lester of Nampha, Idaho, Mrs. Jane Smith of West Plains, Missouri, and others deceased. The following obituary has been kindly furnished: Mrs. Sarah Ayres died at Creston, Iowa, Sunday, June 11th, 1922, aged 91 years, 10 months and 11 days. Her maiden name was Sarah Newzum, born in Washington, county, Pennsylvania, July 31, 1831. She was married to John Ayers in Greene county, Pennsylvania, in 1850. From Pennsylvania they moved to Michigan and from Michigan to Iowa, locating near Coon Rapids about 40 years ago. Mr. Ayers died in 1887. The deceased was the mother of ten children. A son died in infancy and three daughters after having reached maturity—Mrs. Nettie Hall, Mrs. Etta Allen and Mrs. Belle Hall. The living are: Mrs. James Smith, West Plains, Missouri, Silas Ayers of Boonesteel, South Dakota, Mrs. Delia McLaughlin and Mrs. Effie Knight of Coon Rapids, Mrs. Lewie Lester, Nampha, Idaho, and John Ayers, Creston, Iowa. She was a member, in early life, of the Baptist church and later of the Christian church. She leaves six children and thirty two grandchildren to mourn her death. She was very patient in her last illness of four week's duration and during which she inquired about all her Coon Rapids friends.
