Description	:	ABILENE — Sarah Pearl Kuntz, 92, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Memorial Hospital, Abilene. She was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Bern, the daughter of the Rev. Floyd W. and Ada Ruth (McClanahan) Atkinson. She attended school in several towns in Kansas because of her father's ministry. She was married to Homer W. Kuntz at the home of her parents in Abilene on March 24, 1938. They farmed in the Buckeye community from 1938-1964, at which time they moved to Huntington, Ind. She was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Bern, the daughter of the Rev. Floyd W. and Ada Ruth (McClanahan) Atkinson. She attended school in several towns in Kansas because of her father's ministry. She was married to Homer W. Kuntz at the home of her parents in Abilene on March 24, 1938. They farmed in the Buckeye community from 1938-1964, at which time they moved to Huntington, Ind. After retiring in 1978, they spent the winters in Alamo, Texas. In 1990 they moved back to Abilene. Sarah continued to go to Texas for the winters after the death of her husband on June 4, 1993, until 2005 when her health would not let her go. She loved to cook and very seldom used a recipe. She was often asked for a recipe, and she would say "a handful of this or a pinch of that." She worked as a cook at the Skip Inn, Dryden's Café, A&W Root Beer Drive In and Memorial Hospital, all in Abilene, and Sarah's Café in Enterprise. She also worked in the meat departments of the Safeway and A&P Grocery stores in Abilene. After moving to Huntington, she managed food services at Huntington College and Victory Noll Nunnery. She loved to entertain, especially Sunday dinners, and her dining room table was always open to anyone her children wanted to invite. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved having them around her at all times and especially enjoyed singing many of the old hymns with them. She especially loved having the children come to her house trick or treating and seeing their costumes at Halloween. She was called "Mom" by many people other than family. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, the Women's Missionary of First United Brethren church, Gideon Auxiliary and the Homemakers EHU, all of Abilene. Survivors include one daughter, Twila (Lloyd) Jackson, of Abilene; four sons, Warren (Patricia) Kuntz, of Hoover, Ala., Dorland (Eloise) Kuntz, of Caro, Mich., Dwight (Patti) Kuntz, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Marvin (Sandy) Kuntz, of Abilene; daughter-in-law, June Kuntz Atkinson, of Abilene; one brother, Gerald Atkinson, of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Laurine Atkinson, of Abilene, and Joan Atkinson, of Chapman; special friend and caregiver for six and a half years, Florence Smith, of Abilene; grandchildren, Wanda (Russ) Pitney, Todd (Tammy) Kuntz, Gidget Kuntz, Jennifer (Scott) Fritchen, Josh (Liz) Kuntz, Kirk (Deana) Kuntz, Julie (David) Jenkins, Wendi (Nathan) Parvin, Holli Critchfield, Doug (Amy B.) Kuntz, Tammy Kuntz, Tricia (Josh) Phillips, Amy E. Kuntz, Chris (Lisa) Kuntz, Richard Kuntz, Caleb Kuntz, Ann Marie (John) Schwarting and Chad (Erin) Kuntz; 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son, Edward Kuntz, in 2001; four brothers, Dwight, Wesley, Floyd Warren and Lee Atkinson; three sisters, Almeta Atkinson, Ada (Clarence) France and Winona (Dale) Koelling; two grandsons, Dwight David Kuntz and Troy Kuntz; and three great-grandsons, Clint Kuntz, and Luke and Benjamin Parvin. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, March 30, at Martin Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Abilene, with Pastor Shane Britt officiating. Burial will be in Abilene Cemetery.
