Description	:	Another Loved One Gone Mrs. N. J. McLaughlin, who resided one mile south of Hocking, died last Thursday morning after a protracted illness, lasting nearly five months. The funeral occurred Friday afternoon, July 28, 1899 at the Baptist church, two and one half miles southwest of Hilton, after which the body was laid to rest in the church yard there. The services were conducted by Rev. E.B. Linn, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Albia, and a large concourse of neighbors and friends were present. McLaughlin, who resided one mile south of Hocking, died last Thursday morning after a protracted illness, lasting nearly five months. The following obituary was read: On Thursday 27th, at 7:40 a.m. Mrs. Sarah McLaughlin died at her home near Hocking. For several years she suffered from heart disease, and last winter was taken down sick and grew gradually worse, then dropsy set in. For the last three days she was partly unconscious, then died peacefully at the hour above mentioned, aged 50 years, 2 months and 13 days. She was born at Halbeath, Fifeshire, Scotland, May 14, 1849, daughter of David and Jane Penman. At the age of 20 she came to this county with her parents and settled in Pennsylvania where she married Nelson J. McLaughlin on the 17th day of Feb. 1871. To them was born six children. Her daughters, Mrs. Alex Hynd and Mrs. Wallace Manley live near by. John is married and lives in Mahaska county, Joseph, Maggie and Albert is at home with their father. The family moved from Ohio to this state in 1882 and by steady labors and strict economy saved enough to buy 100 acres of wild land ten years ago which is their present home. The deceased was taught in her youth the Presbyterian creed and believed in Christianity, but never joined any organization.
