Read More	Born on 15 March 1814, in Providence, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, Sarah was the daughter of Barbara (Loar/Larr)(b. 15 March 1778 - d. 31 October 1843) and Thomas Hartley (b. 7 August 1767 - d. 6 June 1843). Both of Sarah's parents were born in Pennsylvania and died in Indiana. From her father's earlier marriage to Leah Jones, Sarah had older half siblings, Mary and Ezekiel. Sarah was the fifth of the eleven known children born to the marriage of Thomas and Barbara. Her full siblings were: Eliza G.(J?), Leah J., John, Esther L., Norton Daniel, Rachel L., Rebecca D., Elias F.(P?), Hannah F., and James S. Hartley. The family moved several times as evidenced by the birth locations of the children. The first seven (including Sarah) were born in Pennsylvania; the next two were born in Ohio; birthday of the next was either Ohio or Indiana; and the youngest known child was born in Indiana. The first marriage of Sarah was to Joseph Gibson Teas (b. 23 March 1799, Pennsylvania - d. about 1828, probably in Iowa). Sarah and Joseph married 05 Jun 1834 in Wayne County, Indiana. They had two children, John (b. about 1835, Indiana) and Barbara Hannah (b. 21 September 1838, Henry Co., Iowa - 21 November 1871, Lucas Co., Iowa). Records indicate that after Joseph's death, Sarah married, on 26 Februrary 1843, in Randolph County, Indiana, a man named Moses Manning (b. about 1794, Maryland - d. 15 April 1876, Metz, Jasper Co., Iowa). Little is known about their time together and there were no known children born to their marriage. On 4 December 1850, Sarah was married to the widower, Levi Fox, Sr., by Rev. William H. Lawder in Butler County, Ohio. Sarah's stepchildren from Levi's marriage to Eliza Yerkes were: Mary, William Pierce, Josiah B., John Newton, and Annie E. (Annaliza). Three children would be born to Sarah and Levi: Missouri (b. 16 Sep 1851, Butler Co., Ohio - d. 16 January 1880, Lucas Co., Iowa); Levi, Jr. (b. 23 July 1854, OH (probably Butler Co.) - d. 2 September 1928, Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama); and Nebraska (b. 1858, Benton, Lucas Co., Iowa - d. between 1880 - 1890). Sarah was age 63 when her husband, Levi, died in 1877. She would outlive him by four years. Sarah died on 24 August 1881, in Washington Township, Lucas County, Iowa. Both Sarah and Levi are buried at New York Cemetery, Union Township, Wayne County, Iowa -- the location being just over the county line from their home in Lucas County. Sarah and Levi share a single gravemarker with his name on one side and hers on the other. Levi's information is on the west face of the monument and Sarah's on the east face. Near the base on the south face the FOX name appears in large relief block letters. Above, also in "relief" are carved two clasped right hands within an oval. The symbolic meaning of the hands is said to sometimes indicate the unity of marriage or, alternatively, the farewell and goodbyes said at death. Between the Fox name and the image of the hands is the following inscription: There is no death, no darkness no tears, in that bright world where the rightous [sic] dwell. The north face of the monument is bare of markings. <><><> Letter to My Ancestor ~Author Unknown~ Dear Ancestor, Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone.
