Description	:	Sarah was the daughter of John Hammond of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. She was married at the home of her father in 1790 to Eber Sherman, with Elder Northup of N. Kingstown officiating. In October 1814 Sarah's husband enlisted for service during the War of 1812. He was stationed at Fort Adams in Newport, RI, but in December 1814 he died very suddenly of stomach cramps. Read More	Sarah was the daughter of John Hammond of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. She was married at the home of her father in 1790 to Eber Sherman, with Elder Northup of N. Kingstown officiating. In October 1814 Sarah's husband enlisted for service during the War of 1812. He was stationed at Fort Adams in Newport, RI, but in December 1814 he died very suddenly of stomach cramps. Sarah remained a widow for several years, but in October 1820 she married the widower, Langworthy Pearce, the son of Daniel Pearce and Mary Langworthy, who had been a soldier of the Revolution. Langworthy had formerly been married to Eunice Austin. Langworthy died in 1833, after which Sarah was married a third time, in 1834, to Henry Congdon, who died in January 1843. He may be the Henry Congdon who was born in Rhode Island on 24 July 1759, the son of John and Mary Congdon. He is likely the Henry Congdon who appears in the 1790, 1810, and 1820 federal censuses for North Kingstown, RI, and on the 1830 and 1840 censuses for Providence, RI. He is also likely the Henry Congdon who appears on the Providence City directories for most years from 1830 to 1844. Following her third widowhood, Sarah went to live with her daughter, Mercy Hunt, in East Greenwich. Her application for a pension on account of her second husband, Langworthy Pearce, was allowed on 26 February 1853. Two years later, on 21 March 1855, she was allowed bounty land warrants in full satisfaction for the service of her first husband, Eber Sherman. Sarah had 12 known children, born about 1790 to 1810, all with her first husband.
