Captain of 3d Company of Smithfield Militia. 1793. About this time Joseph removed to Otsego Co., NY., and settled on a farm about 10 miles from Cooperstown. His sons William and Joseph, who were then of age also removed to Otsego Co. before or after, while the minor children probably all came with him. I Joseph Sprague of the town of Otsego and County of Otsego and State of New York being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory and blysed be Almighty God for the same to make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following that is to say first I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Philles the sum of Eighty Dollars or thereabouts being in the hands of Steward Fitch with the _____ provision that she pays the money due to John Adams and the Doctors bill also all my household Furniture of all descriptions Except one writing desk which I give unto my belove Son James Sprague also that my son James Sprague Delive or Cause to be delivered unto my said wife Philles yearly and every year fifteen bushels of grain that is to say five bushels of wheat five bushels of Rye and five bushels of Indian Corn also ten weight of Sheep's wool and twenty weight of flax also one half of an hundred of Salted pork also one third of the Dwelling house that I now live in also one good milch Cow it is allways to be remembered that my Son James Sprague is to find firm wood and do Milling while my said wife Philles does live with him and during her natural life or while she remains my widow I give and bequeath unto my said son James Sprague all the lot of land or Farm that I now live on together with the Buildings there in Except twenty Acres in there abuts on the North end of my Said lot or farm now in the possession of my Son Joseph Sprague that is (start of p. 196) North of a fence that my son Joseph lately built said land to go down to the bank of the Brook and no further I give unto my daughter Mehittebel Johnson one good Milch Cow also I give unto my son William and unto my son Joseph Sprague and unto my son Benjamin Sprague and unto my daughter Sarah Angel** and Mary Angel* Hadare Winsor and Deborah Skinner each and all of them five shillings apeace and Lastly I appoint my wife Philles Sprague and my son James Sprague to be the Executrix and Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Nine.
