Description	:	Funeral services for Sealy Smith, native of Poweshiek county and lifelong resident of the Brooklyn and Grinnell communities, were held last Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Bramer Funeral home. His death occurred Wednesday night at Community hospital in Grinnell following a long illness. He was 63 years old. Brother Garland Lipe of the Fort Smith, Arkansas Church of Christ was in charge of the services. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery with the follwing pallbearers: Ralph Wallace and Warren Smith, Floyd and Wayne Patten and Virgil Aiken. Flowers were cared for by Martha McBlain and Hesper Marlow of McBlain Greenhouse of Grinnell, Mrs. Mary Osmann and Betty Spading of Malcom. Sealy Summer Smith, son of Rosa and Harvey Smith, was born Sept. 12, 1891 on a farm near Hartwick. He married Katie Rupp Feb. 22, 1910 and five children were born to the couple. She died in 1938. On June 15, 1942, he was married to Hazel Patten. He was baptized in the Church of Christ in early manhood and was faithful to the end. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. At Grinnell where he has lived for the past ten years, Mr. Smith was employed at the shoe factory, the Country Club and in cafes. His early years were spent in road construction work in Iowa and he was also night watchman at Brooklyn. Mr. Smith had been hospitalized for about two months with a heart condition. He had been an invalid for nearly two years. Surviving are his wife, Hazel; his aged mother, Mrs. Rose Smith of Hartwick; five children, Lester of Malcom; Mrs. Elton (Ruby) Meldrem of Newton, Everett of Lebanon, Tenn., Wayne of Malcom and Mrs. Floyd (Vivian) Parker of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Four brothers, Rayman of Hartwick, Homer of Ottumwa, Rolla of Montezuma and Royal of Belle Plaine, also survive. Grinnell (IA) Herald-Register
