Description	:	Segfred Hilmer, son of Gustaf and Ellen Hawkinson Johnson, was born 23 May 1905 at Lincolnville, Marion County, Kansas, where he attended public school. When he was 17 years of age the family moved near Canton, in McPherson County, Kansas. On 10 November 1936 he was united in marriage to Edith Lundman Hawkinson at Burdict, Morris County, Kansas. Segfred and Edith had lived on a farm northeast of Canton for 30 years before moving to McPherson in 1966. He had been a farmer as long as his health would permit. Read More	Segfred Hilmer, son of Gustaf and Ellen Hawkinson Johnson, was born 23 May 1905 at Lincolnville, Marion County, Kansas, where he attended public school. When he was 17 years of age the family moved near Canton, in McPherson County, Kansas. On 10 November 1936 he was united in marriage to Edith Lundman Hawkinson at Burdict, Morris County, Kansas. Segfred and Edith had lived on a farm northeast of Canton for 30 years before moving to McPherson in 1966. He had been a farmer as long as his health would permit. Segfred had open heart surgery in Houston Texas in 1965 and had made a remarkable recovery with the skill of Dr. Michael DeBakey, his faith in his Lord, and his desire to live. He truly loved life, however his health necessitated him leaving the farm and doing limited lighter work. This was carried out by his association as a salesman for a seed company. He was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church where he attended with marked regularity. Segfred loved his Lord and practiced the teachings of his Savior in his every day living. He was a devoted husband, an understanding father and grandfather. He was of a patient, loving and understanding nature that had made for lasting friendships. Survivors include his wife Edith; one son; one daughter; five grandchildren; a brother; a niece and other relatives and friends.
