In 1868, he was married to Gretje Schnitjer who was also born in Ostfriesland. They came to America in 1869, the year after they were married, locating first at Buck Grove, Iowa, and coming to George with their family in 1909. Siebe Korfe was long remembered by those who knew him. He was very fond of music and was one of the few people who owned an organ. So precious was it to him, that he kept it locked, except when he came home after work and spent a little time relaxing by playing his favourite hymns or psalms, as he called them. Like many others who came from Germany as adults and settled in German-speaking communities, he did not speak English very well, but he had no difficulty communicating with children. His granddaughter, Frieda Feldmann remembers that when he went to the elevator with his big wheelbarrow to buy some coal, children ran to join him almost as soon as he left the house, and by the time he reached the elevator he was giving a ride to as many children as he could crowd onto his wheel barrow. When he went uptown to get his mail, he was soon walking with half a dozen children around him.
