They were married 19 September 1866 in Madison Co, IN. Their children were Edward Port Conine, Charles Franklin Conine, Dallas Wilbert Conine[married Mabel Seeley], Addie Conine and Mary Alice Conine[married Orle Elbert Funkhouser]. Selestine is buried beside her 5 year old daughter Addie. Her stone does use the spelling Carleton as her maiden name, but census and other family members have it spelled Carlton. Obituary [provided by Jacquie ] Mrs. Cellestine (Carleton) Conine departed this life April 30, 1888, aged 38 years, 11 months, and one day. She was born in Madison county, Ind., May 29, 1849, moved with her parents to Knox county, Ill., in 1855, and in 1859 moved a second time, stopping in Decatur county, Iowa, where she spent most of her life. September 29th, 1866, she was united in marriage to Bartly J. Conine, of Decatur county, Iowa. They were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows together 21 years, 7 months, and 11 days. To them were born five children, three sons and two daughters. The elder daughter died in her third year, and the younger was only five days old when the mother was called from earth away. She was a kind daughter, a loving sister, an affectionate and true wife, and a wise and loving mother. But few sons are able to retain the confidence of their sons (sic) like Mrs. Conine. Too often mother and children drift apart; but not so with this family. We trust seed that has been sown in the young hearts will in time spring up into noble manhood. She became a professor of Christianity early in life, joined the United Brethren church, to which tenets she held until after her marriage, when she united with the Christian church. She lived an earnest, faithful christian, always doing all she could for the advancement of Christianity. Her death leaves a vacant chair at church as well as at home. But few persons attend church more regularly than she. As a friend and neighbor she was held in high esteem by all. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church at Hopeville, Iowa, where a large concourse of relatives and friends met to pay the last tribute of respect to mortality. The sorrowing family have the sympathies of the entire community.
