Description	:	Selma Charlotte Pieper Beer Selma Charlotte Pieper was born August 1, 1888 to August and Anna (Bauercamper) Pieper near Waukon, Iowa. She was the second child of eight children. She graduated High School in Waukon, Iowa. Her family moved from Waukon to Iowa City after her father August retired in 1914. Selma attended The State University of Iowa receiving two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a major in German in 1914 and a Certificate of Education also in 1914. Read More	Selma Charlotte Pieper Beer Selma Charlotte Pieper was born August 1, 1888 to August and Anna (Bauercamper) Pieper near Waukon, Iowa. She was the second child of eight children. She graduated High School in Waukon, Iowa. Her family moved from Waukon to Iowa City after her father August retired in 1914. Selma attended The State University of Iowa receiving two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a major in German in 1914 and a Certificate of Education also in 1914. On June 24, 1915 she married Jesse LeRoy Beer of Alden, in Iowa City. Selma and Jesse were married 55 years. The couple lived most of their life in the Iowa City, Coralville area, except for a few years they resided in Pleasant Hill. There were two daughters born Edith Ann on June 10, 1920 died a few days later on June 26, 1920 and is buried at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Betty Jean was born on April 16, 1923 in Iowa City, she passed away December 10, 1991 in Henderson, Nevada. Selma, age 88, died on December 8, 1970 at a Nursing home in West Branch, Iowa after a stay in the hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers Elmer Floyd of Waukon, who passed in 1964, John, born September 13, 1893 who lived a month and died October 13, 1893 in infancy, Frederick born in 1911 lived only 24 hours per family letters, and Carl Adelbert born May 30, 1901 who died October 22, 1944 in a car crash near Chicago. She is survived by husband Jesse Beer and daughter Betty Jean Beer Maxey and two grandsons. Also surviving were three sisters; Pearl (Jack) Boyles of Fort Dodge, Lillian (Mick) Mickelson of Waukon and Ruth (Cecil) Munson of Washington D.C.
