Description	:	Selma Boyd Fossum, 95, Bismarck, died Feb. 16, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Selma Boyd Fossum was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Elgin, the daughter of William and Mary Giese. The family lived on a farm north of New Leipzig until Selma was 6 years old, when they moved into New Leipzig. She graduated from New Leipzig High School and attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. Selma worked for Dakota Public Service Company in the district office in Mott. While there, she met Earl Boyd. Selma and Earl were married on Nov. 20, 1941, in Burbank, Calif. During World War II, she lived in San Diego, Calif., while Earl was serving in the U.S. Navy. After the war, the couple returned to North Dakota and settled in Bismarck. Selma worked for the Nodak Mutual Insurance Company for 24 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1946 and served as a Lutheran League advisor on the youth board and long-range planning committee. She was a member of Circle 1 and Ladies’ Altar Guild. Selma was past president of the Lloyd Spetz Post Auxiliary of the American Legion and past fifth district secretary, and was chairman of Girls State for many years. Selma’s husband, Earl, died in 1979. She married Wallace V. Fossum on Oct. 4, 1986. Selma is survived by her son, Dennis (Deb) Boyd; her daughter, Donna Becker; a very special daughter-in-law, Miriam Gilbertson; her grandchildren, Michael (Mary) Boyd, Kristin (Cory) Chorne, Taya (Chris) Fosland and Scott (Kristie) Becker, all of Bismarck, and Holly (Brent) Lockett, Dallas, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; and Wally’s children and grandchildren, Sandy (Greg) Stofer and their children, Kevin (Alyse) Stofer and Kellie (Seth Schoenbauer). She is also survived by one brother, Harlan Giese, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; her son-in-law, Ron Becker; and her grandson, Todd Becker.
