Selma Emma was born May 15, 1923, in Krem, the fifth of 11 children of David and Rosalia (nee Guenthner) Isaak. She was brought into God's family by the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit through baptism in September of 1923. Selma attended school in Mercer County. She was married to Rueben Bernard Unterseher on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1944, and to this union were born three children, Joel, Rosemary and Melissa. Selma and Rueben farmed two years and then moved to Stanton, where they went into business as a bulk plant agent and service station operator with Mobile Oil Co. for 11 years. The oil business took them to Rapid City, S.D., until 1960. Rueben's work in heavy equipment sales took them to several states, and they were living in Billings, Mont., when he died in 1982. Selma moved back to Bismarck in November of that year, where she lived until moving into the Knife River Care Center in Beulah in 2003. She remained there until her death. Many of Selma's friends and family will remember her skills as a seamstress. She worked for many years in stores, and then out of her home doing alterations. She also was a tireless volunteer at Zion Lutheran Church, the YMCA and at Missouri Slope Nursing Home, all in Bismarck. She taught Sunday School, made quilts for Lutheran World Relief, served in L.W.M.L. and was a trained Stephen Minister. It was her great joy to be able to use her skills in serving her Lord Jesus. Selma loved to cook, especially when there was a family gathering. She always had a smile and a kind word of encouragement for others. We cherish our memories of Selma. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We look forward to seeing her again, even as we rejoice in the knowledge of the resurrection of all who believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Selma is survived by her daughters, Rosemary (Donna Johnston) Unterseher, Sutherlin, Ore., and Melissa (Tim) Richholt, Billings; her eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Elsie Sailer, Lorentina Weisz, Hildegard Wallender, Walter Isaak, Elmer (Ann) Isaak, Armand (Violet) Isaak and Jeanette Zeller; her sisters-in-law, Ida Mohl, Lorine Unterseher and Irene Unterseher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Rueben in 1982; her son, Joel in 2003; her brother, Othmer; and her sisters, Gertrude and Delores.
