She was a native of Stanly County, retired from Burlington Industries in Ramseur, and a member of Ramseur Wesleyan Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. Selma was a sweet and humble person and her unwavering faith and the love of Christ was evident in her everyday life. In her earlier years, she was a tireless and selfless worker, always caring for needs of her family before herself. She was a great cook and loved to have a small garden in which she had quite the green thumb. Selma will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as having a kind and compassionate spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Kivett, parents, James Irl and Safronnie Fesperman Thompson, sisters, Hazel Thompson, Lillian Gordon, and husband, Erwin, stepson, Herman"Bill" Kivett, son-in-law, Paul Stanley. Survivors: daughters, Mary Stanley, of Ramseur, Martha Dunn, and husband, Jeff, of Franklinville, sons, Paul Wesley Kivett, of Greensboro. Rev. Dr. Forbis Kivett, and wife, Raynita, of Archdale, sister, Opal Auman, of Asheboro, brother, J. I. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Alice, of Rockwell, grandchildren, Mikki Weaver, and husband, Zebulon, Mary Gilbert, and husband, Jason, Chris Kivett, Kelly Kivett, and wife, Paige, Chad Kivett, and wife, Laura, Ken Stanley, and wife, Jenee, Kelby Stanley, and wife, Angie, Darren Gaines, Lisa Cox, and husband, Robert, Howard Kivett, Debbie Bingham, thirteen great-grandchildren.
