Read More	RED LODGE — Senia Mabel Croonquist Hart died Sunday morning, April 18, 2010, in Red Lodge, at the age of 92. Born in Red Lodge on Jan. 1, 1918, she was the oldest child of Alfred Harrison and Senia Pollari Croonquist. She grew up in Red Lodge and at Camp Senia, the dude ranch founded by her parents on the West Fork of Rock Creek. Senia attended Roosevelt School until the family moved to Billings in 1932. She graduated from Billings High School in 1936. With a PEO scholarship, Senia attended Cottey College, a two-year school for women in Missouri. Her studies were interrupted in January of 1938 with the untimely death of her father; she returned to school, graduating in 1938. After college, Senia was hired in Billings to be the Northwest Airlines Montana Traffic Representative. Her duties were to promote dude ranch vacations and trips to Yellowstone Park. Senia became a lifelong ambassador for Montana and the West she loved so much. She married Russell Blackwell Hart in Spokane, Wash., on April 19, 1942. They settled in Billings, where Russ was President of the Hart Albin Company. An avid supporter of the arts and preservation of historic sites, Senia worked on many projects enhancing downtown Billings, including the Yellowstone Art Museum, the Western Heritage Center and the Alberta Bair Theater. In 1968, Senia founded Levels 3 and 4, a group of shops, artists’ studios and offices in the Stapleton Building. Marie Halone’s tea room was a favorite spot for lunch in downtown Billings. When Senia moved to Red Lodge in 1992, she continued to support historic preservation in her hometown and served on the board of the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum. Due to her efforts, her beloved Camp Senia was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Senia was a member of First Congregational Church, Chapter Y PEO, Shining Mountain Chapter of the DAR, and many other organizations. In 1993, she was awarded an Honorary Degree from Rocky Mountain College. Senia captured the hearts and minds of all she met and everyone appreciated her keen ability for making those around her feel at ease and valued. The underlying quality of “sisu” (perseverance in Senia’s mother’s native Finnish language) was part of Senia’s essence. She wrote often, sharing her thoughts in essays and poems, and loved to photograph family, friends and local events. She never left home without her camera and an extra roll of film. One of Senia’s favorite pastimes was playing double solitaire with her children and grandchildren at the family’s cabin at Camp Senia. Senia was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Russell Blackwell Hart II; her parents and her brother, Alfred H. Croonquist. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Katherine and Robert Borth, Elizabeth and Douglas McClelland, and Raymond and Kathleen Hart; her grandchildren, Cynthia (Bruce) Kelling, John (Zellie) McClelland, Robert (Sonia) Borth, Carrie (Thomas) Miller, and Curran, Elizabeth and Russell Hart; her great-grandchildren, Jack, Claire and Christopher McClelland, Rowan and Henry Kelling; her nephews, David, Thomas and Mark Croonquist; and sister-in-law, Shirley Croonquist. A celebration of Senia’s life will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 4 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in Billings. Smith Funeral Chapel has assisted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Yellowstone Art Museum, the Western Heritage Center, the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum or a charity of one’s choice.
