"Jean" Madziar, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019 at Close To Home Assisted Living in Bay City, Michigan at the age of 99 years. Jean was born on November 14, 1920 in Bay City to the late Walter and Martha (Luptowski) Matuszewski. On January 13, 1945 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Jean married the love of her life, Stanley A. Madziar and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2014. During World War II, Jean worked as a lathe operator at Autolite. Following, she was a homemaker who took loving care of her family and her home. Jean's world revolved around her family; she lived for her kids, and adored her grandchildren. At the age of 17, Jean began filling and collecting scrapbooks, and religiously continued to pursue this passion during the entirety of her life. She was a lifetime member of St. Hedwig Parish and most recently a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. Jean was a member of the Kiesel Pearls, Rosary Society, League of Catholic Women and Felician Sisters Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Audobon Society for over 25 years. Her family and friends loved her baked goods that she so generously shared. She joyfully baked every day. Jean always told her family, "I'm a good cheap cook and I can cook on a shoestring". Watching birds was something that brought Jean an abundance of joy in her life; she has logged over 30 years of Christmas Bird Counts and has completed numerous backyard bird surveys for Cornell University. She was also known for her artistic abilities. Some of her paintings still hang in many local businesses today. She took pride in her roses, enjoyed gardening, was an excellent card player, and loved watching sports. Jean will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends. Jean is finally reunited with her husband, Stanley Madziar; parents, Walter and Martha Matuszewski; brother, Walter Matuszewski; two sisters, Rita Madziar and Barbara Morel; and special friends, Irene Suchyta and Nita Malecki. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine St., Essexville, MI. The Celebrant will be Fr. Dale Orlik. Visitation will take place at the church, only, on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private Family inurnment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
