Severt Engebritsen Nass was born on 31 Jan 1828 in Etna, Norway. Kari Engebritsen Halvorson Heckerson was born on 29 Dec 1827, also in Etna, Norway. They were married in 1855, after which they came to America in search of a better life. They were farmers and were in search of rich farmlands. They had a daughter Anna who was born on 10 April 1858 near Lisbon, Illinois. They moved about the area and on 1 Jun 1864, they had a son Albert Engebrit Olaus Nass. At that time they were living in Newark, Kendall County, Illinois. The family of four moved to Iowa in 1878 in search of cheaper farmland and better market prices. They came on a train to Cambridge, Iowa, which at that time was the end of the line. They unloaded their furnishings and equipment onto wagons, which were pulled by horses to land about a mile and a half southwest of what is now Huxley, Iowa. Here they embarked on farming. In 1881, the town of Huxley was established. The son, A. E. built a house in Huxley, into which he moved his parents. Severt died on 1 Dec 1903 in Huxley of cancer of the stomach. He was buried in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Cemetery in Huxley, Iowa. About six months later, his wife Kari joined him. She died on 2 Jul 1904 and is buried in the Nass family plot. They were both members of the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, which was then located in the southwest corner of the cemetery. SOURCE: Martin E Nass & Marjorie Mae Moles. Severt was born Sjur Ingebrigtsen on Ytre Nes in Skaanevik, Hordaland. He grew up at Aasheim, Skaanevik. This part av Skaanevik became a part og Etne about 1965. His parents was Ingebrigt Jenssen from Innbjoa, Fjelberg parish in Hordaland fylke, now Vindafjord, Rogaland fylke, and Anna Sjursdatter that grew up with her mother at Ytre Nes.
