He was coming up Main street, when his colt took fright from crackers and torpedoes which some little boys were firing, and ran furiously through the villages to near Chas. Wyman's residence, when it suddenly turned the corner, throwing Mr. Cochrane out who struck heavily upon the ground. He was taken up for dead, but soon recovered consciousness and was taken to his home, where he laid for some time in a critical condition. He is now gradually improving, though in consequence of his age he may never fully recover from the effects of the accident." Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 12 Dec 1878 p3: "Mr. Sewall Chochrane [sic], the oldest inhabitant in this village [Dover], thinks that the water was never higher in the river before." 1880 census of Dover, Piscataquis, Maine p50C: Sewel Cochrane, 81, widowed, he & parents born in Maine, listed with son, James, 46, and his wife, Lizzie M, 43. Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 10 Jul 1884 p2: "DIED---In this town [Dover], July 8, Mr. Sewall Cochrane, aged 85 years."
