Description	:	Seymore Hurlbut, (David Jr, David, John, Thomas) was baptized in Middle Haddam Society, Chatham, Ct, 13 June 1756. He married 19 February 1778, Deborah Cook of Chatham. Mr Hurlbut was a farmer and settled in Portland Society, Chatham. Mrs Hurlbut was a member of the church in 1781. It has been said to us that Seymore held sentiments loyal to Britain during the Revolution; but what would seem to contradict this report; we have had another, telling that he received a pension from our government for Revolutionary services. Portland, Conn, Middlesex County Printery, Published 1897 Page 54 American Revolution Service & Pension While a resident of the Society of Middle Haddam in Chatham, Connecticut, Seymour Hurlbut enlisted in the year 1776, served two months as a private in Captain Daniel Brainard's company, Colonel Talcott's Connecticut regiment; he was on Long Island at the time of the battle, not in the engagement, but was in the retreat from there, and in a skirmish with British ships off Harlem. He served in the spring of 1777, two months in Captain Daniel Brainard's company, stationed at New Haven. He served in the fall of 1778, one month at Kingston on the Hudson River, no officers given for this service. He served in the latter of part of the Revolution, two months in Captain Giles Meigs' company, stationed at Guilford. Seymour Hurlbut applied for pension on September 28, 1832. The soldier, Seymour Hurlbut, was allowed pension on his application executed September 28, 1832, at which time he was living in Chatham, Connecticut, having lived there always, with the exception of two years, when he lived in Glastonbury.
