His earlier years were spent upon a woodland farm near that town. At the age of sixteen he began learning the leather dressers trade, which occupation he followed for 24 years. November 14, 1858, he was united in marriage with Miss Della C. Slawson of Duanesburgh, Schenectady county, New York. Of this union nine children were born, two girls and seven boys, two of whom, Eliza and Arthur, having died in infancy before his removal with his family to Nebraska in 1877, and two, Orville and Mabel were born in this state. Soon after coming to this state he entered a homestead, upon which has lived for twenty-five years. He united with the First Baptist church of Gloversville at seventeen years of age and has always lived a devoted christian and a kind and loving father whose highest ambition was to provide for and rear his family in the christian faith and to live at peace with all with whom he associated. He leaves a wife, six children, fifteen grandchildren, and two brothers, one living at Philadelphia, Penn., and one at Cosby, Mo., to mourn him... E. R. Veeder, a son, died in November 1900. All the survivors of the family live in Hall county... The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Hayes and largely attended by the many friends and neighbors, were held at the residence and the remains interred in the Cairo Cemetery Wednesday afternoon... ***** Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Wednesday, 30 September 1903, page 3 The death of Mr. Seymour (sic) Veeder is reported from Cairo. Mr. Veeder had reached the advanced age of about sixty-five years. He was one of the most prominent citizens of that portion of the county and one of the oldest settlers. He has a large family of grown children and the family has the sympathy of a host of friends in all parts of the county in their sad bereavements.
