He was born to Bernhard and Betsy Kirkeby in Bottineau, ND in 1930. he was the youngest of 7 children. He was a talented baseball player, even trying out with the NY Yankees. After high school Al was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War, 1950-1952. After that he went to North Dakota School of Forestry; played football and met his future wife, Marilyn Pyle of East Helena. Al and Marilyn raised 4 children; she passed away in 1987.... He had many talents and the family enjoyed many summer vacations at Canyon Ferry Lake where he'd fish for hours, and hours. He worked as an accountant for the Workers Comp Div., retiring after 30 yrs. In 1988 he married Linda Madill. He served over 20 yrs on the Lewis & Clark Veterans Council. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Morris, Bernhard, George and Louis; sister Luella and his first wife. He is survived by 2nd wife, Linda, 2 daughters and 2 sons. He leaves 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 3 step-sons, 8 step grandchildren and one step great grandson.
