(The Rapid City Journal, Rapid City, SD, August 31, 2012). ---- Boyd Howard Erickson, age 82, of Lisbon, ND, and formerly of Hettinger, ND, passed away August 26, 2012, at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND, from complications following a stroke. Boyd was born March 31, 1930, to parents, Monroe L. and Lillian (Larson) Erickson, both deceased, of Hettinger, ND. Boyd graduated from Hettinger High School, and enlisted in the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Hettinger, he created and, for a time, operated a construction business, Erickson Construction. His love of farming continued and he farmed his acreage Northwest of Hettinger for many years. For the past several years, Boyd was a resident of the North Dakota Veterans home in Lisbon, ND. Boyd is survived by his family and friends. Boyd will be remembered for his adventurousness and vitality as a young man, and his gentle strength as an adult. Funeral services for Boyd will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Hettinger Lutheran Church with [name omitted] officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Johnson-Melary American Legion Post #115 will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 4, 2012, at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday afternoon. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in peace Boyd, we will miss you. Funeral arrangements are with the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.
