Bot, as he was called by all his intimate acquaintances moved to Norway, Kans., with his parents when a small boy. He received his education in the Norway schools. He attended Sunday school and church at the United Brethren church at Norway. Bot played baseball and basketball with the Norway town team for several years. Clarence LeRoy Sutton was born March 31, 1913 at Oak Hill, Kans. Bot, as he was called by all his intimate acquaintances moved to Norway, Kans., with his parents when a small boy. He received his education in the Norway schools. He attended Sunday school and church at the United Brethren church at Norway. Bot played baseball and basketball with the Norway town team for several years. He will always be remembered by his teammates as a clean and hard player. Bot and his elder brother, Wayne, engaged in farming on a partnership basis. They were thus engaged when the call came for Bot to join his country's colors. He was inducted into military service, March 29, 1942. He took his basic training at Camp Berkeley, Tex., being in the infantry in the 90th division. He spent four months on maneuvers at Leesville, LA., in 1942, and three months in Camp Granite, Ariz., on desert maneuvers in 1943. From there he was sent to Fort Dix, N.J., which was to be his point of embarkation, but while at Fort Dix he was injured and had to spend eight weeks in the hospital. While he was in the hospital his division, the 90th, went overseas and Bot was left in the States. In May, 1944, he was sent to Fort Bragg, N.C.. Here he was assigned to the 100th division. He sailed from here late in September and arrived in France October 23, 1944. On December 5, his parents received a message stating that Bot was missing in action, and again on December 10 came the sad message that he had been killed in action in France November 18, 1944. He had attained the age of 31 years, 8th months and 18 days. He leaves to mourn his departure; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Sutton of near Concordia. Note: bio info provided by Eric Ackerman
