Description	:	Salem, Ore. - Duane John Van Orman of Salem, Ore., died at Saint Rita's Senior Care Community in Salem. He was 91. The son of I.W. and Dolly (Jackman) Van Orman of Hecla, he was born Aug. 27, 1913, at home. He graduated from Hecla High School and the Aberdeen Business College. Van Orman joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and worked on Park Development in the Mt. Rushmore National Park area. Read More	Salem, Ore. - Duane John Van Orman of Salem, Ore., died at Saint Rita's Senior Care Community in Salem. He was 91. The son of I.W. and Dolly (Jackman) Van Orman of Hecla, he was born Aug. 27, 1913, at home. He graduated from Hecla High School and the Aberdeen Business College. Van Orman joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and worked on Park Development in the Mt. Rushmore National Park area. During World War II, he was one of the first to volunteer for the Army from Brown County. He served four years and 9 months, and honorably discharged as a master sergeant. He married Virginia Blake on Oct. 6, 1941, in the First Methodist Church in Aberdeen. They were married 62 years and had one child, Michelle. Van Orman worked 40 years as a Real Estate Broker in the states of Washington and Oregon. He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, his parents and his older brother, Kenneth. He is survived by his sister, Eileen Beare, Milbank; sister-in-law, Edith Van Orman, Aberdeen; brother, Bill Gatchet, Louisville, Colo.; grandson, Mike Gatchet and great-grandson, Austin Gatchet, Salem, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews in South Dakota. Van Orman was kind and generous to all who knew him - a loving husband, father and grandparent who loved hunting, fishing and reading. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006, in the United Methodist Church in Hecla, the Rev. Ryan Mutzenburger officiating. Published in the Aberdeen News on 5/27/2006.
