Left service 25 Aug 1863. MO: honorable discharge. MI and MO at Augusta. In Civil War (The war in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy from 1861 to 1865. Also called War Between the States.) Company G. 24th Infantry. Since he died only three years after the close of the war, he may have died from disease contacted during the war; such was the case for many in this terrible war. The 24th Regt. Maine Infantry mustered in 29 Sept 1862 for 9 months at Augusta; mustered out 25 August 1863. Battles: Port Hudson, LA. Casualties: 1 killed. 190 died of disease. The 26th Regt mustered in October 1862 at Bangor for 9 mos. Mustered out 17 August 1863. Battles: Irish Bend, LA and Port Hudson, LA. 34 killed or died of wounds. 131 died of disease.
